int'l dance and music festival

We went up to Rexburg to go to the temple and hang out with Shad's family for a little bit. In the afternoon we took the kids to the splash park.

I mostly sat on the side and took pictures.

Shad's mom got out there with the kids too.

After the splash park, we took the kids for a ride on the carousel.

That night we went to the International Dance and Music Festival. The football stadium was set up with all the countries' flags. Click on the picture to see it a little bigger.

This is a sweet shot of Avery's face burn, from when she fell off a bench and scraped the left side of her face on the concrete while at the splash park.

At the opening ceremonies, six different countries took turns coming out and taking their seats.

China.

Egypt.

Mexico.

Mongolia.

Thailand.

U.S.A. - I like our, um, authentic costumes.

After a lot of talk and introductions and thank yous, the performance part of the night began with all the performers letting go of balloons.

There were several performances by a variety of people.

Egypt always got up and swayed or clapped to the music.

All the countries did a big number together.

Some dance group.

My excited family (Avery is sitting on "Nana's" lap).

Some more really exciting dance routines...

And finally the different countries performed.

China.

Egypt.

Mexico.

Mongolia.

Thailand.

And U.S.A.. We were represented that night by a hip hop dance group for troubled youth based in California.

Some other girl sang a number.

Graham fell asleep.

And then all the countries got together again for the big finale.

During the final performance, all the lights were cut and all the performers waved glow sticks around to the beat of the music.

I kind of wish we could have seen the other U.S.A. group that will be participating in the rest of the week's events, and it's too bad that more countries couldn't make it (mostly because of financial difficulties in coming all the way over here). But it was still a fun event, and I think the kids enjoyed watching the different performances.
