county fair and chubbuck days

We were hoping to make it to the county fair while Mary and her kids were here, but between my kids getting sick and naps, we never made it. So Friday afternoon we dragged Amber with us to the fair. In this picture, Drake is picking out a prize for knocking some pins down in bowling.

Cake decorating contest.

Model trains and railroads.

Model airplanes, which really fly but it was too windy outside so they weren't doing it while we were there.

Some interlocking sculpture.

This quilt and pillow had to have taken a long time to make.

Especially when you consider that each circle was hand-stitched by 92 year-old Myrtle. Then each of those 1,334 circles were hand-stitched together. That's a lot of stitching.

There was a spelling bee that we didn't stay to watch, but I couldn't get over how enthusiastic the contestants looked.

The kids enjoyed the sand.

And the rabbits.

And the cows.

And they enjoyed the goats as long as there was a fence between them. We started out inside the fence so the kids could feed the goats up close and personal. My kids got scared right away and we decided it would be better to just feed them through the fence.

There was an ice cream eating contest put on by Schwan's.

And of course, a fair wouldn't be complete without a treat.

So the fair was Friday night. Did I mention the kids got spoiled with books and games?

This morning was the Chubbuck Days Parade and Festival. Before the parade started, this helicopter flew back and forth, pretty low, along the parade route.

I think the helicopter was advertising itself because you could pay to go for a ride after the parade, at the festival .

Drake couldn't wait for the parade to start.

The parade was lead by the latest D.A.R.E. car, followed by scouts from our ward.

Costco threw out toilet paper instead of candy.

It was interesting to see all the different businesses and politicians that came through.

The kids got plenty of candy. There were no other kids right by us, so there was no competition. We also ended up with a whole bunch of popsicles.

Rodeo queens?

Cool horse.

Hobby store showing off their RC cars.

This "float" was kind of freaky... I don't remember the business, but it was loaded clear full of stuffed animals and quilts, and these two boys sat on the back and played their drums. The expression of the boy on the left didn't change the whole time they were passing us. He was super thrilled to be there.

Speaking of freaky, this one was obviously advertising some hair place, but all the heads lining the sides of the truck just didn't seem right.

Train-mobile.

This truck was advertising a taxidermy business. There were stuffed animals on the back of the truck, but these two dogs were alive.

After the parade we went to the park for the festival. It was mostly businesses and vendors selling things. There was a small car show.

Avery fell asleep.

The kids did a few games.

And then we headed home. Amber was a good sport to go along with everything. I think the kids had a good time.
