goodenough campground

We went camping at the end of August... and not just in our backyard.

The boys arranged our stuff to be their "house" before we packed it.

We drove up to a place we hadn't been to before.

We found a campsite that was plenty big.

And it was right next to the creek.

I happily took pictures of stuff while Shad and Drake set up the tent.

It was fun watching the kids run around and sit down and have fun doing nothing in particular.

After we set up camp, but before dinner, we did a little exploring on the other side of the creek.

We roasted hot dogs for dinner.

And marshmallows for dessert, of course.

We let the kids just go for it with the marshmallows.

I figure they're gonna get dirty anyway, so might as well let them enjoy it...

...even if it does make a bigger mess.

When we finished eating, Shad and the kids had a game of chase around the bench.

Avery mostly watched.

After we had settled into the tent for the night, and everyone but me was asleep, I heard what sounded like an animal in our campground, getting into our garbage that I had forgotten to put in the car.

I woke up Shad and made him listen to it. He sat up, grabbed his hatchet and a flashlight, and peeked his head out the bottom of the tent door.

He very quickly pulled his head back in and said it was a skunk and that he wasn't going to mess with it. We woke up the next morning to this:

I'm just glad it wasn't anything bigger.

For breakfast that morning, we had oatmeal and other easy stuff. We used our blue camp stove for the first time.

I liked the instruction manual. See how happy you can be while working the stove?

Kids are cute in the morning, especially when you're camping.

We hung out for a little while longer before heading back home.

This was the view driving back down the mountain.

And even though she was filthy, Avery still sucked her thumb.

It was a great weekend to go camping, and the weather was wonderful. We liked the campground enough that we'll definitely go back next year, 'cause hey, if it's good enough for you, it's "Goodenough" for me...
